When you’re always scheming about ways to make money, it’s like a part of you is lost.

Haruki Murakami
About This Quote

When we are always scheming about ways to make money, it is like a part of us is lost. The problem with always plotting ways to make money is that it goes against our instincts to live a truly creative life. As creative as the world is, it has to be expressed through creative means. The creative process is a creative process.

I don't think that the world needs more creative people who are out there planning, planning, planning. We all know that creative people are often poor. They often have a hard time making a living and support their families.

So much of their creative energy goes into figuring out how to make money. When you're always trying to make money, you stop using your creative energy in the way it should be used, which is creating things that bring joy to other people's lives.
